So… Who WAS That Dude…?

If you’ve seen Avengers, chances are you’ve seen the extra scene that has everyone talking (and no, I don’t mean the shwarma). In typical Marvel Movie fashion, we were treated to a teaser of the next big thing to hit the Movie-Marvel-U: THANOS.

The internet is buzzing, longtime comics fans are stoked and new readers are curious about this galactic enemy. But who the hell is Thanos?

Well, Thanos is a Galactic Titan. He was born with the “Deviant Gene” (seriously) and was very different than most of his race. Though they treated him fairly as he grrew to adulthood, Thanos became distant and fascinated with death. Eventually Thanos fell in love with the embodiment of death, aptly named Mistress Death. Using a combination of technology and magic, Thanos strives to end all life in the Universe. He is a cold, compassionless dictator who cares about nothing except death.

Thanos‘ main weapon in his quest to erase life from the universe is an item known as The Infinity Gauntlet. Careful movie observers will have noticed this as one of the items in Odin’s treasure room in Thor, along with The Cosmic Cube.

In short: Thanos is a bad dude. If the Marve Movie Universe is heading in a Galactic direction, a head-on collision with Thanos was inevitable.
