Starting Points

Happy day after Hallowe’en, everyone. Hope you all made sure to saturate your gullet with as much sugar as your mortal bloodstream could handle! I know I did.

What with being a big time university student at all, I find myself spending more time reading dreary, dusty authors talk about the public sphere and cybernetics and less time reading comics. Let’s face it: the comics industry moves super fast, and requires a good amount of effort to keep up with. Now, this is obviously no problem for fans of the medium, but I know from experience that, for many would-be comics enthusiasts, the prospect of finding a starting point can be like standing on the edge of a cliff and looking down at an enormous ocean. Filled with comic books. Don’t fret! I’ve prepared a list of a few graphic novels … Read More »

More Introductions & Batman: The Animated Series

Hey there, excellent folks. My name is Alex, and I’m another employee who you’ll likely run into in one of our shops. You don’t have to refer to me as “Shopkeep” in an old-timey voice, but I totally wouldn’t object to it. I’m a comic connoisseur, obviously, but aside from the inky pages I’m also an aficionado of music, movies and animation. I’ll likely be posting a lot about these things. Prepare yourselves.

If I had to define my childhood in a few key phrases, “Batman: The Animated Series” would be one of them, right after “fear of finger painting.” In a most excellent turn of events, my 11 year-old brother recently started collecting comics, so last week I sat him down to watch a bunch of episodes of The Animated Series, as well as the movie, “Mask of the Phantasm.”

Welcome… It’s Here!

After months of planning, weeks of assembling and days of panicked tweaking, the doors of The 4th Wall East have finally opened!

It’s almost 2 years to the day that we opened The 4th Wall in the West Island area of Montreal and with this second store we are right across the street from a Metro station which gives all of our friends downtown a chance to pop by and see how it is we do things.

But that’s not the only unique feature of The 4th Wall East.

Sure, we’ve still got the services of ComicPull, we’ve still got the focus on the comics reader both new and old, but at the 4th East we are exposing ourselves and the medium we love to a whole new audience: the Gamers.

That’s right, The 4th … Read More »

Bookends Takes On Kill Shakespeare

Dear friend of The 4th Wall, the adorable Justine Lewkowicz reviews IDW’s Kill Shakespeare on her show, Bookends:

Comics 101: Chapter 7 – Comics & The Movies

It’s fair to say that the way most new people are exposed to comic books these days is through movie and TV adaptations of the characters and stories that we comic faithful have loved for years. It’s a great way for someone who’s just starting out in comics to get to know characters and stories without having to worry about missing pieces, because most of the info is recapped at some point during the flick.

Comic Book Movies have developed into a genre of their own in Hollywood, but this wasn’t always the case. Comic book movies used to be cringe-worthy theatrical releases, or little-known direct-to-video efforts that often never came close to matching the stories they were based on.

Comics 101: Chapter 1 – Terminology & Comics

Comic Books. There are a LOT of them.

The most common question I get asked when people come into The 4th Wall is “What’s going on with ‘Character X’?” followed quickly by, “Where do I start?”

The purpose of this column is to help people who are new to comics, or have always wanted to get into comics, but were turned off by the sheer number of comics and characters there are to get into.

Let’s start with the basics: Terminology, and comics themselves.

The Top 10 Bros With Mos In Comics

It’s Movember dear friends, and for those of you not in the know, it’s the month where men everywhere (including this one) rock a moustache (or simply a “mo”) for the cause of Prostate Cancer.

Donations and sponsorships are accepted here, and with your help we can raise some significant dough to help eradicate this disease.

So, with that in mind, we proudly present The Top 10 Bros With Mos In Comics. These dudes are hardcore, and would raise a ton of money if they had a Mospace page.

Writing on The Wall: Issue 006

Your weekly guide to what’s new and exciting at The 4th Wall

Every Friday, we’ll throw out some news about the shop, the comics industry and any and all events and new arrivals that we’ve got going on at The 4th Wall! It’s all part of our attempt to truly be your one-stop place for all things comics!

Shop News

Well, it’s a huge week in the store this week. We have not one, not two, but THREE big releases all hitting the shelves!

First, fresh off the heels of its AMC debut THE WALKING DEAD VOL.6 Hardcover will be here! These over-sized hardcovers are twice as long as a softcover volume, and with the bigger page size you can really appreciate the fantastic art. If I were starting the series again, I would absolutely choose this format.
