Shop News

It’s been something of a quiet week here in the store. It may or may not have something to do with the man the call Sohmer being 15 hours in the future, but either way, it’s been a relaxing time.

There was a metric ton of new releases on the single-issue side of things this week, so while I paw through them and try and get caught up reading, here’s a 17-minute making-of documentary from AMC’s The Walking Dead.

It’s October, and the best part of a new month in a comic store is the release of the new Previews catalogue from our distributor. This shows us all the comics, books, games, toys, apparel and any other product you could think of that we can order for delivery in a couple months.

As I was leafing through this month’s Previews, I couldn’t help but feel like the next few months are going to be great ones for comic fans. Just look … Read More »

It’s all part of our attempt to truly be your one-stop place for all things comics!

Shop News

It’s been a pretty good week at the shop this week as we start looking forward to two big events.

The first is Christmas. Yeah, I know, it’s not even October yet and we’re talking about Christmas! But in the world of comics we like to think ahead, so let me tell you that we’ve got you covered for the comic book fan on your list, and the person you want to turn … Read More »

Scott Pilgrim Vs The 4th Wall

We all love Scott Pilgrim. Who wouldn’t, right? This mega-hit, Canadian series has taken the world by storm. All 5 volumes are available at The 4th Wall, with the 6th and final volume due in July, just before Scott Pilgrim Vs The World rocks the box office!

But the biggest complaint I’ve had about the series is the lack of sweet merch. Well, my prayers (and yours too) have been answered! With the movie on the way, there is a whole slew of great Scott Pilgrim gear on the way! Due out just before the movie releases, all of these are available for pre-order.

Check out the swag, and if you see something you’d like to order, drop me an e-mail!! moss@the4thwall.ca

Mark Millar Kick’s Ass… So Now What?

Ok, so you saw Kick-Ass, and it was awesome, right? Then you checked out the comic, and it was equally awesome, yeah? Of course you did. But it got you thinking… who is this Mark Millar guy? He seems to be a pretty decent writer… Has he done anything else?

As usual my friends, we are here to answer your burning questions:

Repeating The Mantra

When we first conceived of The 4th Wall, we wanted to present a comic store that was clean, well-lit, with a focus on knowledgeable and friendly customer service.

Y’know, kinda like an Apple Store.

In fact the mantra we repeated over and over again was “Apple Store Meets Comic Store.” Hopefully we’ve come close to achieving this, and I was really happy to read Kendall Swafford’s article on icv2.com today.

There’s a lot we as comic retailers can learn from outside retail environments. Personally, I love going into well-laid out record stores. Also, while they’re mostly not considered “retail” stores, the welcoming and comfortable feeling I’ve had while going into certain tattoo shops and guitar shops has always stuck with me.

What say you? Are there any retail stores out there that really strike you?

Thoughts on Marvel and The iPad

The much-anticipated Apple iPad hit US stores this week, and the usual buying frenzy occurred. The iPad has been a gadget that the comics community has been watching closely, as it offers for the first time a portable, easy way to read comics digitally in full-colour in a size close to their printed counterparts.

Marvel Comics was the first one out of the gate to launch an iPad app, making available many of their archived titles, as well as a few more modern ones. Based on the demos I’ve seen, the app itself looks to be pretty good, borrowing heavily from the ComiXology app that has been one of the best received of the comics readers for portable devices.

What surprised me though was the price of the digital comics: $1.99 per issue. Granted, Marvel does have a few freebies … Read More »

Shameless Self-Promotion II

Check out who the only Canadian Retailer to get a shout out in Nemesis #1 is:

Incidentally, copies of Nemesis #1 are still available at The 4th Wall!

Shameless Self-Promotion

Some of you may have noticed the large logo at the bottom right-hand side of the page for The Watchtower.

For those that don’t know, it’s not a religious movement (well it might be, one day), but rather a weekly show that I co-host with a friend and colleague by the name of Donnie Coulter.

We talk comics, comic movies, comic culture and anything else we can cram in there, and are often joined by special guests from the industry like Jeff Smith, Terry Moore, Kevin Smith, and most recently, Cameron Stewart. We do one show a week that is available on iTunes, and through our website thewatchtowepodcast.com and you can hear it on the air at 11pm Friday nights on Newstalk 1010

I bring this up because March1Studios has just done a total site redesign on The … Read More »

NABIS @ The 4th Wall – March 11, 2010

Back in stock we have a whole lot of ESSENTIAL titles, fresh Walking Dead, and Invincible Iron Man.

As always if there’s something you’d like put aside for you, shoot me an e-mail!
