Come on, Batman, it’s Christmas eve. Let’s kick back and enjoy the spirit.

Hey guys!

Look I know I was gonna talk about the war of the X-Men titles (Uncanny vs. Wolverine and the X-Men) but I have to own up to something. I lied. Now, assuming I haven’t forever destroyed our trust, let’s talk Christmas! As I mentioned in my first post (let’s face it you didn’t read it but let’s pretend like you did, that’s what I do! *sob*), I have been a major Batman fan since my wee days. One tradition I loved to have as a kid was watching christmas specials. Of course there were the standard films such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman, anything involving Bing Crosby (did he do anything not involving Christmas?) and of course the Muppets Christmas Special (if this isn’t a regular in your holidays, you didn’t experience childhood right). But … Read More »

Indie Comic Corner: Dry Spell

I’m admittedly a mainstream comic-book fan. I’ve never been too much into independent works, sticking mostly to the big names. Hey, it’s what works, right? While indie comics are good at doing their own thing, every now and then one comes along that is such a gem that it would be a shame to have it go by unnoticed. Some need help being brought into the spotlight.

With that I bring you Dry Spell, written and illustrated by Ken Krekeler. Focused on seemingly mild-mannered office worker Tom Ferris, the novel deals with a world where there are very few super-heroes/villains, and the only big name supe is Apollo (of Superman equivalent ability whom Tom despises). Once a co-worker figures out that Tom has a secret concerning his past relations with the super-powered everything begins to unravel. Tom is revealed to be … Read More »

Why are you looking here? The story’s down there!

Hey kids, been awhile huh?

We are soon leaving the third month of the New52 and it has been gearing up. Aside from the excellent titles from the last few weeks (Batman, Justice League, Action Comics and Green Lantern all come to mind) this week has seen some excellent issues.  I wanted to list what I thought were the three best issues from this week, and give my thoughts on what makes them so great and why you should be picking these up!

Aquaman: I think what makes this book so phenomenal is Geoff Johns’ writing. The way the characters interact with Aquaman, and how he is portrayed just make this book excellent. Everyone makes jokes about Aquaman and Johns’ spends half his time addressing these jabs. I’ve personally realized how stupid … Read More »

It’s like there’s a Schism between us

Hey guys!

It’s Marc again, and now that we’ve been reacquainted let’s get down to business shall we?

If you’re anything like me, you’ve had a passionate and sometimes fleeting romance with the X-Men. Once upon a time, this was the only Marvel title I would read. Anything involving the X-Men would captivate me because of the depth and meaning to the X-Men’s problems. They’re outcasts who deal with racism, homophobia and various other higher social messages that made them a captivating team. That being said, they were always one of the more topsy turvy titles that went all over the place and got kinda confusing for me personally.

But recently, with the releases of Uncanny X-Men #1 and Wolverine and the X-Men #1, I’ve decided to dip my toes back into the material, something I haven’t done since the Messiah Complex book. … Read More »

Starting Points

Happy day after Hallowe’en, everyone. Hope you all made sure to saturate your gullet with as much sugar as your mortal bloodstream could handle! I know I did.

What with being a big time university student at all, I find myself spending more time reading dreary, dusty authors talk about the public sphere and cybernetics and less time reading comics. Let’s face it: the comics industry moves super fast, and requires a good amount of effort to keep up with. Now, this is obviously no problem for fans of the medium, but I know from experience that, for many would-be comics enthusiasts, the prospect of finding a starting point can be like standing on the edge of a cliff and looking down at an enormous ocean. Filled with comic books. Don’t fret! I’ve prepared a list of a few graphic novels … Read More »

Welcome… It’s Here!

After months of planning, weeks of assembling and days of panicked tweaking, the doors of The 4th Wall East have finally opened!

It’s almost 2 years to the day that we opened The 4th Wall in the West Island area of Montreal and with this second store we are right across the street from a Metro station which gives all of our friends downtown a chance to pop by and see how it is we do things.

But that’s not the only unique feature of The 4th Wall East.

Sure, we’ve still got the services of ComicPull, we’ve still got the focus on the comics reader both new and old, but at the 4th East we are exposing ourselves and the medium we love to a whole new audience: the Gamers.

That’s right, The 4th … Read More »
